Deadline to order is July 2. Seems expensive to me.

Got a job

Yes, I got a job at the USPTO (Patent and Trademark Office) as a patent examiner. Technically, I could have done this without a J.D., but it will do for now.

I just wanted to give you the update.

recent work

Here's a couple pieces I've designed recently. Even if you click on it, the image will be showing in a lower quality.

The first site is for the Association of Professional Oklahoma Educators. I think this is their old website? I did NOT design the ugly logo. However, I did incorporate it into the website as best as I could. This design has not yet fully been approved yet. To compare, here's our beloved state's.

This is for the company I'm working at. Their current site hasn't been redone since 95. This design has not yet been approved yet. This time I did design the logo, which isn't my forte.

Europe (part one)!!!

I don't know if you guys heard about my exciting (NOT!) flight disaster to Europe, but the complete journey here ended up taking 2 full days! :P It all occurred just because of one little delay at the Springfield airport which then made me miss the next couple of flights...let's just say that I ended up staying at the lovely OHare Airport overnight and no, not nearly as accommodating as the Holiday Inn.

But the past week and a half I have been staying in Hattenheim. It's a little town an hour away from Frankfurt where Daniel's university if located. The tiny town is absolutely charming I must say.

Daniel is still in class studying for his final examinations, so I've been given the opportunity to venture out and have day trips to different nearby towns.

Here is Rudesheim, a super tourist city. It's on a long strip right along the Rhine River. This general area is known as the Rhinegau. It's really famous for its white wine. Everywhere you go here you always pass by rows and rows of grape vines.

I spent the afternoon by the Rhine River. It's so beautiful, and everyone comes out just to lay out in the grass, spend their time leisurely, and have a glass of wine. There's a trail along the river and random benches all throughout the trail. I brought a good book (Anna Karenina--super good) and read for a few hours.

Here's the little wine stand where there are some tables and seats to chill in front of.

Last night I went out with Andy (Daniel's friend who's done w/all his exams) & his gf, Mika, and some of his friends out to a nice dinner then to a small town just a stone's throw away where there's a celebration -- Erdbeere Fest (or Strawberry Festival). It's a four-day event that's kind of like a little carnival --but to the locals it's a pretty huge deal.

The ladies here are holding cups of Erdbeere bowle, the most popular drink of the festival. It contains a mixture of champagne, the region's famous white wine, and strawberries (of course).

I also traveled to Viesbaden, a popular place for shopping. Then today I went to Frankfurt with Andy and Mika. While Andy had a business lunch, we girls did some shopping--don't ask how I'm going to get all my luggage back home, eek!

But Daniel will be finished with his last exam tomorrow morning, so we will head to Duren, his hometown, to relax with his parents for a few days. Liz, who is studying in London for summer school, is flying down to visit for the weekend as well. It should be fun!

To be continued...

Graduations, Vacations, and Babies... Oh my!

Hello one and all! It's high time I posted some pictures of recent events, eh? I know, I know, many of the good ones have already been posted, but I'll add a thing or two... how's that? (By the way, I miss all of you, and I can't wait to see you again!) SO.... here goes!

First off, Ummaneem showed her great versatility and flexibility on the way to David's graduation by graciously offering to get (WAY) in the back so we could all ride in one car!

Here's the handsome graduate himself giving the adoring crowd a thumb's up.

Off to Harbour Island... I do not have the best pictures from this trip, but I wanted to show you David and Ummaneem losing their legs to the pink sand.

We saw this pair (or remarkably similar ones) ALL OVER the island! (BTW, Harbour Island MUST have been where the "why did the chicken cross the road" joke originated.)

And.... games on the beach!

Graduations, vacations, and what else?... oh yeah, babies! ;) Here are a couple of shots of the proud grandparents-to-be with their little golden pig bib!

And, here we have the very first, never below published shot of the Kim Baby... our little peanut! (Don't let the paparazzi get ahold of this one!) He or She is much bigger now, but we won't get to see the little one again for a month or so!

And, as though you needed any more visuals, here's the first shot (end of the first trimester) of my rapidly expanding belly. Unfortunately for you, there may be more of these sorts of shots posted in upcoming months. ;)

Well, nice posting with you! Talk to you again soon!

Graduation Celebration

Thank you! This is why we went to VA to celebrate David's graduation. Congratulations!

In front of Nassau airport, there was a three-hour wait to go to North Eleuthera, so we asked the taxi driver to take us to a restaurant. He took us to this one. We had curry rice. Dad had fish.

After riding the water taxi, we arrived at Harbor Island. We couldn't wait to go to the beach, so that is why nobody is wearing their swimsuit.

I thought, "Why do we keep walking by this tree?" Notice Sarah's parents are not in the picture. It was a long walk to go to the tree. The first time we passed by from the hotel to the beach, the tree was in the ocean. We took our chance to take a picture with the tree when the water was low. I later realized it was a famous tree when we went to the local art gallery and saw all kinds of photographs and pieces of this tree. Looking back, I am glad to have a picture with it.

At least twice day, we would go to the beach while everybody else rested in the hotel. We took the golf cart and went back to see the famous tree again. We had a lady take our picture. Notice the water is high and that the tree is far away. When I wore my swimsuit, I felt insecure. But when I saw this picture, I felt good because I look young.

Sarah said to bring a hammer and knife to take out the conch creature. The nearby stand made conch salad. We can't catch or buy it anywhere, but we got to eat conch salad for lunch.

In order to go to the Man Island, we rented snorkeling gear to practice. David taught me how to breathe and how to follow him. This is behind our hotel.

Before Man Island, we went to the grocery store. In front, there were these banana bunches. I didn't know bananas grew like that, so I wanted to lift it up, but I didn't know it was going to be that heavy. I barely lifted it! Look at my muscles!

This is behind the pool hotel. This pink flower is on every fence- the most popular in the whole town. There were also lots of chicken everywhere. They were popular like the flowers. When I think of Harbor Island, I think of pink flowers and chicken.

Sarah was our guide and took us everywhere on the map. In front of the library, there were two large rubber trees. The roots were outside and there were so many! It was so amazing to see it. Every plant there was so green, so shiny, and so healthy because of the hot sunshine and frequent rain. We saw a cotton tree too.

"Ugly " Flower

When Koreans see ugly women, they point and whisper, "zucchini flower!" I don't know why zucchini flowers seem ugly. This picture was taken in our backyard.

여기있는 호박꽃을 보라! 얼마나 이쁘냐!~ 호박꽃이라 하여도 마음 상하지마라.

(esther's note: Is there such a thing as a an ugly flower? That's a contradictory metaphor. Mom thought that the flower was too beautiful to be described as ugly, so she doesn't want your feelings to be hurt if you ever overhear someone whispering, "호박꽃!" )
